Flying from the Basement

10th Floor, the conception, long way down, all the crying
Mamas breast, baby bottle, thumb sucking, time for flying

9th Floor, no contraption, long way down, all the buying
Grandma’s hug, first words spoken, utensils, time for flying

8th Floor, the elementary times, long way down, more crying
Mom’s goodbye, queasy stomach, teachers, time for flying

7th Floor, the middle school, long way down, all the lying
New friends, some mischief, no love, time for flying

6th Floor, the high school, long way down, even more crying
Girlfriend, a new discovery, painful ends, time for flying

5th Floor, the college, half way down, all the trying
Parties, friends for life, desire for love, time for flying

4th Floor, the working world, short way down, still the crying
Marriage, honeymoon, thoughts of parenting, time for flying

3rd Floor, the child bearing, short way down, all the sighing
Up all night, work all day, love slips away, time for flying

2nd Floor, the divorce, way down, all the crying
Lawyers, kids taking sides, work ending, time for flying

1st Floor, the retirement, way down, time for lying
Old bones, old regrets, same four walls, time for flying

Basement, down, time for flying
Alone, empty, heart discontent, time for dying

Intro to Flying from the Basement

Well we have come to my final poem written in my lifetime of poetry. I believe it looks to describe a lifetime someone can have. Not written as a very positive poem, it may be the reason I had decided to put my pencil down. I was hoping that this blog would propel me to write other poems but it has not to this point.

I am very pleased that I started and ended this blog to its completion. I am thankful to all that have followed along and enjoyed my lifetime of poetry. I do believe, as I continue to tackle other important commitments and projects in my life that I will return to this blog and become motivated to start writing again.

For now, I will allow my readers to enjoy my last poem and look forward to hearing from any of my readers on questions, comments and, most of all, words of encouragement to continue on my lifetime of poetry train with additional new poems for the future.

Sincerely,

Michael Fidlow
