The Numbers Game

The number 0 has nothing
Nothing to do, nothing to say
It won’t add tomorrow
       Nor subtract today

1 is the lonely number
      I’ll have to comply
Cause it is always upset
I’m going to tell you why

Since 2 has a friend
      And one has none
The two can enjoy more
      The two can have fun

Now you’ve heard about 3
      Three draws a crowd
For when two disagrees with one
      They often get loud

So 4 stepping in
      Settles three by arbitration
And numbers appreciating this
      Give a standing ovation

The next of the lot is unhappy
For 5 he knows makes up a hand
He misses the clap of another
To applaud four his favorite fan

Now the other upset number
Comes in at the number 6
Cause when a couple of three’s get together
Her headache she can’t seem to fix

So in trots five and six
      To talk to number 7
Who always cheers them up
      With stories from Seventh Heaven

Now 8 is fun to hang out with as well
For he’ll make you laugh and sing
His bottom may be a bit overweight
But his top can surely swing

So rounding out this great field
We’ve come to our number 9
She’ll always beg to differ with us
But she’s really the end of the line…

Introduction to The Numbers Game

We received the word that a baby was on the way in the very beginning of my marriage to my lovely wife Kathy. Well, now the pressure was on to be a dad. I was truly never ready to be a father but I will say the motivation to become a provider for my child was overwhelming. So overwhelming that I did nothing but sell, sell, sell in that year that I knew we were having a baby and became a success story in my company that year. Needless to say it probably would have made sense to have a child each and every year but at this time I have two awesome kids and my sales and success have kept up to a certain degree. Anyway, with these children I thought I would owe them at least one poem they can remember me by, so next weeks poem is my legacy to leave them for their children. It is one of my favorite poems and I hope you agree it is perfect for a learning exercise at a very young age.

Ode to Parents

With unsuspecting eyes
Her baby-blues invitation to cries
     Inconceivable to walk away
Da Da
Ma Ma
What have you in store for me today?

The innocent look for answers
The waking from dreams of dancers and prancers
She’s at your mercy for coaching and guidance
Reaching out
Without doubt
The safety net exists between the arms of her parents

With knowledge at her walkway
As experience leads her pathway
She develops strength from words you teach
When aware
Please be fair
To resemble the practice of what you preach

She is subject to impression
With discipline enforced by each lesson
She’ll understand the right and wrong way
Learning
Yearning
Your thoughts and ideas of each brand new day

Infect her with joy
Allow your happiness to become her new toy
For in her heart she will carry your emotion
Hold her
Hug her
In due time you’ll be thanked for your devotion

And when the stars rise
Along with extremely tired eyes
Be certain she’ll retain the image of your love
For your assured
She’s adored
The gift of life granted by you, the angels and the lord above

Introduction to Ode To Parents

So readers, before I knew it I was having a child for the first time.  What an experience that was going to be.  I married a woman 2 years older than me and her biological clock was ticking.  Well the timing could not be better as it allowed me to feel important in life again and it showed in various phases of my work ethic.  I excelled to the number one sales rep in my company and I can contribute that to “child” motivation.  Another motivation was the next poem I wrote.  When I played with my child I could not help but wonder how reliant she was upon me for everything.  I believe any parent will relate to the following poem and I look forward to hearing your opinions.

The Dreams Resolution

As he stares deep into her eyes
He sees a light which he’s yet to ever see
Its rays tend to reflect upon many feelings
Presenting a magnificent rainbow seen only by he

He longs to carry this rainbow everywhere
He never wants to interfere with its design
He only wants to add to its arrangement
To be warmed by its radiant sunshine

Strive, as he will effortlessly, to achieve a harmony
He’ll venture through the rainbows peaceful existence
So that the light he sees in her shadowed eyes
Will reflect a binding of color to narrow their distance

He wants to be a mirror to reflect from
He wants her to glance at him from time to time
Wanting her not only to see her own true beauty
But enabling him to hold the image of her in mind

For he knows this image has enhanced his life
Wanting only to give this joyous feeling back
He will stop at nothing to deliver this message
Of caring and sharing he yearns to fulfill in her eyes so black

So embrace his hands for this fantastic journey
Through the many adventures of an unsuspecting night
For when her eyes appear too dark to see
His promise of willing eyes shall lead them both into the light
